The D.R.E.A.M.S for Youth Scholarship is a need-based scholarship program that provides financial assistance to low-income students in the form of grants and scholarships. The program was established in 2006 by the Department of Education to help close the achievement gap between high-income and low-income students.

The scholarship is available to students who are enrolled in an accredited two- or four-year college or university, and who are majoring in a STEM field.

The D.R.E.A.M.S for Youth Scholarship is open to students of all races and ethnicities. However, preference is given to students who are from low-income families and who have demonstrated financial need.

To be eligible for the D.R.E.A.M.S for Youth Scholarship, students must:

DETERMINATION. REALIZATION. ENRICHMENT, ACADEMICS. MISSION. SERVICE, known as D.R.E.A.M.S, was established in 2022 in the United Way of Long Island.

It has granted scholarships and grants to deserving students in the areas of Academics & Enrichment, which is more than $1,000,000. The D.R.E.A.M.S. For Youth Advisory Board encompassed 7th graders to college students who work under the direction of United Way staff to make award decisions. The Dreams Foundation gives support for D.R.E.A.M.S. D.R.E.A.M.S for Youth Scholarship Program gives financial support to Long Island 

youths so that they can seek their educational dreams and aspirations. 

Established on the belief that financial need should not be an obstacle to achieving one’s potential, the mission of DREAMS is to provide financial assistance in three distinct areas: academic, enrichment, and community service. 

The scholarship program is open to seventh to twelfth-grade Long Island youth who establish the financial need and a commitment to community service.

The DREAMS for Youth Scholarship Program grants awards in three areas, which are:

ACADEMIC

D.R.E.A.M.S for youth scholarship assists with costs related to educational goals at a college, university, private or vocational school. Applicants of this academic scholarship must be between grades 7-12, show financial need, and a dedication to community service. Financial awards for this scholarship range from $500 to $5,000.

 

ENRICHMENT

D.R.E.A.M.S for youth scholarship assists with costs attributed to activities that enhance the mind, body, and spirit, such as music, singing, dance, art lessons, driver’s education, sports training, specialized summer camps, etc. 

These Funds may be used for enrollment fees or related equipment. Applicants for this scholarship must be in grades 7-12, exemplify financial need, and commit to community 

 service. Financial awards for this scholarship range from $100 to $2,500.

 

COMMUNITY SERVICE

D.R.E.A.M.S for youth scholarship awards youth-serving nonprofit agency or school, mentoring a group of youth in grades 7-12 on a diverse service project: beautification of the nursing home, yard work at a community center, etc. Financial awards range from $500 to $5,000.
