FOURTH DEGREE PRO DEO AND PRO PATRIA SCHOLARSHIPS

This Knight of Columbus grant has two different scholarship funds. They are: 

  • United States Youth Degree Scholarship
  • Canada Fourth Degree Scholarship

Each of the awards gives a scholarships fund worth $1,500 to students, and students may reapply annually.

These scholarships are awarded for academic achievement. As such,  the number of scholarships varies depending on trust earnings.

To be eligible for the United States Fourth Degree Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be at the start of their bachelor’s degree.
  • Be attending a Catholic university in the United States. 
  • Be the daughter or son of a member of the Knights of Columbus who is in good standing, a deceased member of the Knights of Columbus.
  • Or a member himself of the Knights 

Note: Membership and application for this scholarship are not limited to members of the Fourth Degree alone. 

 

Eligibility For The Canada Fourth Degree Scholarship

To be eligible for the Canada Fourth Degree Scholarship, applicants must meet the same requirements, except that:

  • Students must be Canadian.
  • Must be at the start of their baccalaureate degree at a university in Canada 
  • The Knights of Columbus members the applicant is connected to must have been a member of a Canadian Knights council.

Fourth Degree Pro Deo award is also available to members in good standing of the Columbian Squires, a fraternity for boys between 10-18 years, for the United States version and the Canadian version.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIPS

Thoughtful donors give funds to the Knights of Columbus to be established in their names. These earnings are used to sponsor a limited number of scholarships in the United States of America. This scholarship is operated in accord with the rules of the previous scholarship.

The Knights of Columbus Endowed Scholarships include:

Frank L. Goularte Endowed Scholarship

Frank L. Goularte’s Endowed Scholarship was established in 2000 to help financially underprivileged students. 

To apply for this endowed scholarship, applicants are to submit a copy of the Student Aid Report (SAR) as well as additional supporting documents.

The number of scholarships awarded each year is determined by the award’s earnings. 

The Percy J. Johnson Endowed Scholarship 

The Percy J. Johnson Endowed Scholarship was established in 1990 to support students who demonstrate financial need.

 

The Anthony J. Labella Endowed Scholarship

The Anthony J. Labella Endowed Scholarship fund was established as part of a legacy in the mid-90s from the Labella estate. 

This scholarship is not restricted as determined based on financial need.

The John W. McDevitt (Fourth Degree) Scholarship fulfills the same criteria as the Fourth Degree Pro Deo and Pro Patria Scholarships, with a few exceptions. 

For this scholarship:

  • There is a separate application.
  • It is only available for US students studying at US universities (must be Catholic).

In addition to being the son or daughter of a member or deceased member, applicants may also be a wife or widow of a member or deceased member.

Aside from these three exceptions, this scholarship is similar to the Fourth Degree program.

The John W. McDevitt (Fourth Degree) Scholarships provide $1,500 awards annually. 

The number of awards is determined by the fund’s earnings.

The Fellowships at the Catholic University of America is a 100-year-old endowment fund founded by the Knights of Columbus at The Catholic University of America in Washing, D.C.
