ABOUT PROJECT YELLOW LIGHT SCHOLARSHIP

The project Yellow Ligh Scholarship is also referred to as the Hunter Garner.

This scholarship competition is designed to bring about change.

It is aimed at educating people on how distracted driving is dangerous.

Applicants are expected to have a clear mission of encouraging their peers to develop and embrace safe driving habits.

As an applicant, you are to create a PSA to encourage your friends to avoid getting distracted driving, specifically using your phone while driving. Whether it’s sending a text, commenting on a photo, or messaging your friends in your favorite app.

 

PHASES OF PROJECT YELLOW LIGHT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The project yellow light Scholarship is carried out in three stages/phases which are:

  • Video competition
  • Billboard competition
  • Radio Competition.

 

  • Video competition:

High school and college winners in these categories will receive a scholarship that is worth the amount of $8,000.

Videos are due and are expected to be submitted on or before April 1.

 

  • Billboard competition:

High school and college winners in these categories,  will receive a scholarship that is worth the amount of $2,000.

Billboard designs are due and are expected to be submitted on or before April 1.

 

  • Radio competition:

High school and college winners in these categories will receive a scholarship that is worth the amount of $2,000.

Recordings are due and are expected to be submitted on or before April 1.

Additionally, the winning video may be turned into an Ad Council PSA and distributed nationally to approximately 1,800 TV stations.

 

The winning design may be turned into a billboard and displayed on Clear Channel Outdoor digital billboards across the U.S.

The winning radio spot may be shared on iHeartRadio’s national network and radio stations across the U.S.

PROJECT YELLOW LIGHT SCHOLARSHIP WORTH

The project yellow light Scholarship is worth $12,000.

The amount is awarded as thus:

  • The first-place winner will receive a college scholarship in the amount of $5,000.
  • The second-place winner will receive a college scholarship of $2,000.
  • The third-place winner will receive a college scholarship of $1,000.

The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $12,000.

 

NUMBER OF AWARDS AVAILABLE

Three winners are chosen and awarded the scholarship. One each for video, billboard and radio competition.

 

ELIGIBLE NATIONALITY

Citizens and permanent residents of the United States are eligible for the Project Yellow Light Scholarship.

 

ELIGIBILITY

High school seniors and Juniors, or undergraduates who are currently attending accredited schools in the United States are eligible for this scholarship. 

 

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Eligible applicants are to meet the following criteria to qualify.

High school juniors and seniors:

  • Must be between 14 and 20 at the time of entry Must complete their high school graduation requirements by July 2021 or 2022.
  • Intend to attend a U.S. accredited college or university beginning in the fall of 2021 or 2022 

Undergraduate college or university students: 

  • Must currently be attending a U.S. accredited college or university.
  • Be between 15 and 25 at time of entry 

 

APPLICATION PROCESSES

Applicants will:

  • Create a short PSA video (25 to 55 seconds) designed to motivate and encourage their peers to not drive distracted. 
  • Videos can be of yourself, a group of people, an animation, a music video, or other creative ideas, as long as it is kept within the given time limit. 

 

SELECTION CRITERIA

Selecting criteria will be based on applicants’:

  • Ability to capture the attention of others.
  • The video’s ability to resonate with teens and move them to action
  • Clarity of the message.
  • Creative expression.
  • Production quality.
